Summertime, and the Livin’s Easy…

So since i started this personal blog in the middle of a semester with 18 credit hours, it started with a bang then sputtered out.  I’m going to try to resuscitate it now, with updates a bit more often, and I’m going to try to figure out how to easily get pictures up here from my travels, adventures, and anything else I feel compelled to share.

For now, I’m living at the Lodge for the summer, with a good pledge brother of mine, Bill.  I’m still working for Phillips Gradick Engineering, working not quite full time but a pretty decent amount of hours when there are jobs to be put out.

I recently was hired to write some freelance blogs for an office supplies blog… it’s nothing that savvy or sexy, but it’s some cash for doing something that I’d like to think I’m pretty good at.  That brings my total number of blogs to 3 - the office supplies one I’m freelancing for, this personal one, and my political geek safe haven at Save the GOP.  Speaking of STG, I recently put up a few new political posts here and here.  Check them out if interested.

Hope anyone who actually reads this is having a good summer.

Uh, Scratch That…

Due to the lack of a reliable vehicle the trip to Charlottesville/Baltimore/DC has been axed.

I will be gracing the city of Athens with my presence, though.  Good thing there’s a reliable college town without Spring Break within an hour’s drive from Atlanta.

Last night was pretty crazy and fun, I’ll post more about it at a later time.

Spring Break Just Got Interesting

This week is looking to be more of an adventure than I initially expected.  As I’ve already written, last Friday I got to go out to the bars with some brothers and Andrew, an old friend from high school.  Well tonight I’ll probably be hitting up Virginia Highlands with another good friend from high school, Tim (actually they both go to U. of Wisconsin) and some other people.  I can’t complain.

Last night myself, Bill, and Reed (my little brother in the Fraternity) went to the Highlands for St. Patrick’s Day.  While we were just expecting to go into an Irish pub by the name of Limerick’s Junction, we came to find that there was a massive band party behind that entire strip of bars with Guinness, Harp, and Smithwick’s being served.  It was a really fun time and for only $5 at the door I’d say a good deal.

The fun doesn’t stop here… this weekend I might be roadtripping up the coast with C Rob (who else would I road trip with?!?).  Turns out he has a club baseball series at UVA on Saturday, and before that UGA (his college of choice, I know, unfortunate) is playing Xavier in DC on Thursday night in the NCAA Tournament.  The tentative plan is to head up for that game on Thursday, stay either with his grandparents in DC or his cousin in Baltimore, then spend Friday night either in Baltimore or Charlottesville, and finally spend the last night of the trip in Charlottesville before heading back to good ole Georgia on Easter Sunday.

The only question now is what car do we take… we both drive beaters that can’t be relied on to make it that far.  We’ll see what happens.

We made 2 trips last summer, one to Charleston, and the other to DC/Baltimore (well, I flew up there to visit, he was living there all summer and working).  Also, I’ve been out in Georgetown, which was fun except for the way-to-early bar closings, and I’ve been to Charlottesville several times, which is of course a fun college town.  Baltimore was a blast and the bar scene was fun as hell.  This weekend is shaping up to be a fun one.

Spring Breaking

So this begins Spring Break 2008… and I’m not going anywhere (save for a few nights in Athens) or doing anything particularly interesting.  You know you’re a 4th year and graduating in less than 12 months when you hope that you can get a few days of solid work during Spring Break, to satisfy monetary and boredom avoidance reasons.

I guess I wish I was going somewhere exotic and fun for the break, and I certainly wish I had some kind of plan other than bumming around, but I’m not really that disappointed.  I guess I’m getting to the age where the notion of a break is in itself a wonderful thing and an alcohol-fueled beach trip isn’t necessary to make the break enjoyable.

Last night my buddy from high school, Andrew, came down to the Lodge to drink some brews here and in Buckhead and catch up with each other.  My birthday was last Monday (boy, was that fun) and his was yesterday, so we had some celebrating to do.  Bill and Mike also went out with us to Hole in the Wall, which was enjoyable save for the $45 bar tab including tip, and Moondogs (of course), where Bill got on the dancing platform and performed for “his fans” while the rest of us had a few more beers.  Upon our return, we ate some food in our kitchen.  I make excellent bacon (not like it’s that hard…) but Mike makes dry scrambled eggs, damn him.

The break will be useful to take some time out to read a pleasure book or two, something I haven’t had time for in a long time.   Maybe a week with nothing much to do will yield some satisfaction after all, we’ll see.  I’ll post again if anything particularly exciting bears retelling on here.

A Word of Advice

Never, ever, have a schedule with 8am classes every day of the week, along with taking 18 hours of class, and agreeing to work part-time.

Also, pulling an all-nighter and attempting a “cat nap” before your 8am just means sleeping through that class and missing it. At least it does for me.

Funny website: Fratting Hard. It’s hilarious (in a tongue-in-cheek kind of way, I’m not a stereotypical Greek at all).

Random thought: Sleep is for wimps.

What’s With All the Politics?!?

I know, I know, I said I’d try to keep the politics to Save the GOP (a movement conservative blog I am a part of) and use this for other purposes.

Thing is, I haven’t yet figured out exactly what direction I want to take this just yet. And in the interest of getting something, anything up, I’ve put a few short posts up about political stuff I find interesting (and also, of course to “throw a bone” to my buddy Brent who said he’d “checked it [my blog] about 1000 times” to no avail).

On the Eve of Super Tuesday, Just Imagine…

… if the genuine conservative was still in the running.  Sigh.

New personal blog

This is my first attempt to create a personal blog for myself and anybody who cares to read it.

I blog about politics, economics, and world affairs at a movement conservative blog called Save The GOP.

This will NOT be a personal diary all about emotional crap and stuff like that. I’ll only put things up here that I think will genuinely interest those other than myself - interesting pictures, stories, travels, jokes, who knows. I’ll see where this experiment takes me.
